ABOUT SAFA JAMALI
Gel is an enigma. In the scientific community, gels belong to a class called “soft materials” that exist in a state that is both a liquid and a solid. Despite this complex relationship, most people see these materials frequently. Products such as hand sanitizers, shampoo, and even medication are types of every-day life gels. However, the way gravity affects gel is not well understood, which results in early expiration of gel-based products. Safa Jamali’s research of soft materials strives for a better understanding of how gel structures are affected by constant forces, and his discoveries translate into medications and common products lasting much longer, making them more affordable for both manufacturers and consumers.
